STUDY GUIDE FOR

CREATING A GREAT CHARACTER

Creating a character is like painting a picture except you use words instead of paint.

Developing a Character  Some Questions to Ask

  • Where do they live
  • Who do they live with
  • What do they like to do
  • What do they not like to do
  • What are they thinking
  • What do other people think about them
  • What makes them unique
  • What does their voice sound like
  • What are their favorite foods
  • What type of music do they listen to
  • What is in their past and future
  • What type of personality do they have
  • What is their opinion on certain subjects
  • What do they look like

Follow-Up Activity

After viewing the video have the class list on the chalkboard all the different details they would use to develop a character in their story.

Challenge Activity

Divide the class up into groups.  Have each group create a character. Have them list all the different things they would use to describe that character.  Then have the students write a description of their character using the list.  At the end have each group pick one of their teammates to act out the character as they read their written description.
