The Creative Process

CERAMICS

Picture

Susie Stamm Andrews makes ceramic bowls that seemingly defy gravity. Delicate, flower-like and covering the full spectrum of nature’s colors, the bowls are unique in the art of ceramics. Susie’s ceramics are exceptional because of her expressive use of what is traditionally a more solid and sturdy medium. Her ability to work porcelain into such a thin and seemingly delicate state would be remarkable in itself if it were not for the fact that many of her works achieve an almost monumental size. Her wonderful use of color and glazing techniques makes each bowl uniquely beautiful.

Susie takes the viewer through the creative process from raw porcelain, double-glazing and multiple firings to her finished masterpiece.

Susie began working with clay while assisting in her husbands clay classes for children. She had dabbled in watercolor and oil painting but never stayed with any one medium until she found pottery. When she first started working with clay, she began developing small, but very thin organic forms, based on her lifelong love of nature, gardening and particularly flowers.
